Coaches Caravan 2011

Some of my favorite things: The Wolfpack and Chick-fil-a!!!

We did something we've never done before this afternoon....we attended the NCSU Coaches Caravan out on the practice fields at Carter-Finley. Matt and I both jetted out of work a little early today, picked up the kids and changed them into their red and white attire, and off we went.  The weather was unfortunately iffy all day again, with severe weather threats. Eerily like the last time we went to a NCSU event at Carter-Finley not even 2 weeks ago. Hopefully this isn't some sort of premonition of the season to come..... But the weather turned beautiful just as we were getting there and we had the perfect afternoon.

Will and Avery had so much fun. There was a bounce house and a huge inflatable slide. Will and Avery made the trek up the slide many, many times. And Matt only had to go with Avery a few times before she got the hang of it and was scaling the climb herself. I know her little legs must be so tired!
Bounce, Bounce

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Daddy and his girl

During a yummy dinner, we were entertained by a beach music band. Will and Avery did a few moves on the dance floor after dinner. We got to randomly catch up with an old college friend during dinner and ran into her again at the slides after dinner.

Will also played a little soccer with some members of the women's soccer team. A few of the football players were playing too. Meanwhile, Avery was going down the slide with Scott Wood.
This boys loves him some soccer
Of course we also spent some time with Mr. and Ms. Wuf. Will ran right over to get some love from his old pal.  Avery FINALLY warmed up to them and actually touched Ms. Wuf. Ms. Wuf was so sweet playing peekaboo with her and blowing Avery kisses. I wish I could have gotten a pic of them hugging but I was holding Avery.  Both Will and Avery squeal with delight when they spy Mr. and Ms. Wuf.

Wild Weekend!

Wow, what a wild weekend we experienced recently. As in typical Modlin fashion, we were busy busy busy but Mother Nature threw us a curve ball that thankfully we dodged.  The forecast all week for Saturday was rain, rain and more rain. I was so sure soccer was going to get rained out that I didn’t even pack up our stuff on Friday night. But somehow the weather held out and we got the game in.  The Lions won 8-ish to 6-ish with Sir William scoring 6 of those goals for the Lions. I haven’t taken any pics the last few games and they have won those games. Not saying I am superstitious or anything (ok, I TOTALLY AM….some of y’all might remember me wearing the same pair of socks and hair scrunchie to every sporting event in high school), but I’m not jinxing anything!
I did snap this one pic of the cutest little cheerleader in the world!
Roar!!!!!
In the perfect world, we had also planned on going to the NCSU football spring game after soccer. But again, the weather forecast wasn’t looking promising so again I did no preparation beforehand. We came home, checked the radar, and decided to give it a go. So the kids quickly got into their appropriate Wolfpack apparel and away we went. A quick stop at Mickey D’s for some tailgating lunch.  The weather was really windy and actually rainy when we got to Carter-Finley so we actually tailgated in the back of the car, but it was still fun. And then the weather broke and we had a lovely, sometimes sunny and hot time. We walked around a bit to see the sights.

Go Pack!
The wolves statue that Matt did the design work for was a big hit with the kids.

We were having a race...hence my goof ballness in the background

While we were there, we got to spend some quality time with Mr. and Mrs. Wuf too! Will was very cute with them. Avery, on the other hand, only liked them from afar.  And when I mean afar, I mean she spotted them across the stadium during the game and begged Matthew to take her to see Mr. Wuf. So he climbed all the way up the stairs with her, all the way to the other side of the stadium, and then all the way back down the stadium steps to see Mr. Wuf. She completely wigged out 3 feet away from him! This is after she had talked such a big game on that whole trip about him looking soft and she couldn’t wait to hug him and pat his back, etc….  Nada.  At least Matt was a good (yet tired) sport about it.

The license plate on their ride says "Mr. Wuf"!!!!
We left at half-time because it was past naptime and ran a few errands on the way home while the kids napped in the back.  Arrived back at the house and turned on TV so Will could continue to chill out a bit after a not so long nap and wow, unbeknownst to us the weather was REALLY BAD. As in multiple tornado cells heading right towards us.  So Matthew and I calmly started gathering stuff in the half bath. Thankfully we have a larger than average half bath. And thankfully the children were really none the wiser of what was going on. Will was watching a DVD on the computer and Avery was content playing with her babies.  Let me just say that while we have a larger than average half bath, 4 people and 2 dogs is still an adventure.  We emerged probably 15 mins later, with no power, to find that thankfully for us, the storms had taken an easterly turn and our neighborhood was virtually untouched. Our street did flood and there was some tree debris, but nothing like what was experience just a few miles east of us.  We were supposed to have some friends over for dinner but obviously that was canceled.  So we ate a quick dinner on the grill and then actually went out to get ice cream. It really wasn’t until we got back and got the kids to bed that I realized just how serious of a situation we had been dealing with. There was so much devastation, injuries, and lives lost truly just miles of us.  Of course I felt all guilty then that we were out celebrating our luck with ice cream.
Yes, my kids were playing in this. And yes, Avery was eventually just down to her diaper.
Sunday was church and then after naps, Will and I ran errands. He needed to pick out Avery and Stella’s birthday gifts.  After that it was Easter dinner and Greta’s birthday celebration at Matt’s mom’s house. Some family friends joined us and were nice enough to bring Will and Avery some craft activities. Avery loves a good art project; she will sit for hours and work on one. Will painted for a bit and then moved onto bigger and better things with the big boys.

Memories

At breakfast this morning, the children and I were talking about Avery's birthday and how it is 2 weeks from today. I asked Will if he remembered when Avery was born and he actually had a pretty good recollection of the first few days.

I asked him what he thought the first time he saw her in the hospital and he replied "I thought she was a going to be a good baby."

His first glimpse at the love of his life

Then he looked across the breakfast table and proclaimed to her in a loud, sing-songy voice "I've got you my baby."

Miss Repeat, not to be out done, sang right back to him "I've got you my...(pause as she figures out what to say)....my Bubba!"

Going in for the first of many kisses

And bless her heart...she's such a good girl. When I ask her what she wants for her birthday, her only reply ever is "cupcakes."  I think I can manage that. And maybe a little something else too!!

Q1 Resolution Update

I guess it is time to face the music and give a Q1 update on my resolutions for 2011.

-Lose the 5lbs I have put back on since Thanksgiving: Check!!

-Lost 10 more lbs this year: On my way, but still not seeing as permanent results as I'd like. But now that the weather is improving,  is my time spent running during the week. So I'm not getting worried yet.

-Become a more patient mother: Not that this one is a constant struggle, but it is something to constantly work at. I'm learning to focus on the children more and less on me in the few waking hours I see them. Basically, Facebook can wait until after their bedtime!

-Work less from home at night: So far so good on this one. My OT has been down considerably so far in 2011.

-Learn to sew: I am certainly working on this one. My only problem is finding time. So far I've done lots of appliqueing on clothes for Avery. My next projects are ruffled pants and a dress for her and then drapes for my bedroom, whenever the fabric comes in!

So while I am satisfied with my progress thus far this year, I still have a ways to go. And not just on the few things outlined below. There is always room for improvement, whether it be your attitude or your eating habits or your relationship with God.  I still think 2011 is going to be an awesome year.

And the Lions with the game!!!!

Just for the record, the Lions won their very first game today with a roaring 7 goals. Will scored 5 of those!

Goooooo Lions!!!!

Baby Chicks

Uncle Gray and Aunt Greta (affectionately known as G&G) are raising chickens now. They are so cool. A few weeks ago we went over to visit the chicks while they were still small. Or as Avery calls them, baby chicken nuggets.
Uncle Gray and Will....can't remember this baby chicken nugget's name
The chicks are so small and the weather has been so cold that the baby chicken nuggets have been living in the house in the spare bathroom.  For real. Gray has built a pretty impressive chicken coop in the backyard that they will move to soon. Will had a good time holding them and playing with them. Avery, on the other hand, stayed away.
Please don't squeeze it too tight!

Dude, eat more beef!

Feeding the chicks

As close as Avery would get
Looking forward to fresh eggs soon! Okay, not really....I don't really like eggs.

A bridal shower

I have been waiting to host a bridal shower for my friend Jessica for a long time. I finally got the chance on Saturday. Mom and I hosted Jessica what I called a traditional Southern shower...for my not necessarily 100% authentic Southern friend....which made it even more important to host her a Southern shower!

After a week of yucky, cold weather. The sun and (slightly) warmer temperatures arrived for Saturday afternoon. What did not arrive was a nap for Avery. I guess she knew it was party time and she is not one to miss a party.

Fellowship with friends and family
My little ice girl
I think the shower was great! It was the perfect mix of friends and family and lots of attention was paid to the bride-to-be. Jessica got some really nice gifts and I think she is officially excited about everything now!
The cake was so good!

I love Jessica like a sister and I am so happy for her. I can't wait to stand beside her in 2 1/2 months!

Monster Jam!!!

Will is a very lucky little guy. When he sat down for breakfast Saturday morning, he noticed a card and a few gifts at his place at the table.  Matt, Mom and I surprised Will and my dad with tickets and pit passes for Monster Jam at the RBC Center!!!  Will loves monster trucks and watching Monster Jams on the Speed Channel with my dad so I knew this would be a hit.
Grave Digger
We came back from soccer and changed clothes and then the boys left for a quick lunch and then Monster Jam. What a convenient way to get them out of the house so Mom and I could host a bridal shower for Jessica!!
Dream come true
Before the show, the boys got to go down on the track and see the trucks and drivers. Will even licked Monster Mutt Rottweiler's tongue!!!!!
