On the last official day of summer, I thought I would chronicle all the fun Sunshine had this spring and summer.

She flew on a big jet plane.

Birthday Bowling

Sunday was a busy day as well.  At church we had the kick-off of the new Sunday School year and the children went to their new classrooms.  After lunch at Char-Grill, a quick rest and a visit from PawPaw and Lesley, we loaded up the van with the neighborhood boys and away we went to the bowling alley.

The kids had a lot of fun and other than me constantly worrying about someone breaking a foot, or worse, with an awry bowling ball, it was a pretty stress free party for me. I mean, I packed and planned way more for the football game the night before than I did for the birthday party. All I brought to the party was 10 simple goody bags, 7 candles and 1 lighter! And 1 credit card! Ha!

We had 3 lanes beside each other, which worked out well because no one had to wait long for their turn yet everyone was close enough to still talk and play around.

Will’s picture kept scrolling through the scoreboard!

Some pics of the kids bowling…..

One of Will’s friends has a sister that is good friends with Avery so it was nice that Samantha could come and Avery had a friend to play with.

I thought it was pretty cool that Will scored a 77 on his 7th birthday, which was also the 7th of the month. If only the party could have been on the 7th……

IMG_1831

Sissy had had enough of bowling at this point.

IMG_1835

Moving on to the party room, where pizza and cake were served.

IMG_1836IMG_1838IMG_1842

He even got to take home the real bowling pin centerpiece, which everyone signed.

A little arcade time before we had to leave.

Sunday was also our wedding anniversary. Matt and I like to joke about how romantic the bowling alley was! No worries, with such a busy weekend and crazy week at our house, we decided we weren’t going to short change ourselves and try and squeeze an anniversary celebration into the weekend as well. So we are celebrating in a few weeks. After the last 18 months, we deserve to treat such a special occasion the right way!

Everyone, including me, ESPECIALLY ME, was pretty pooped after the busy weekend. Getting out of bed was hard for all of us come Monday morning.  I asked Will on Monday afternoon if he saw any of his friends from the party. He said he did and that they all said they had a fun time bowling and thought the cake and goody bags were really good.  That was all the validation I needed!!!

Happy Birthday, Will!!

A bunch of birthday celebrations for Will!!

It was a busy, busy week and weekend around our house! Not only did we celebrate Will’s birthday multiple times, but we had a lot of sporting events in the mix too with a baseball game Thursday night as well as Avery’s first dance class, a baseball doubleheader Saturday morning and then the NCSU football game Saturday night.

On Tuesday night when Mom and Dad were here, we did a little family dinner. Will picked out a nacho bar with all the fixins’ for his meal and a cake “just like Pops’ birthday cake” found here, only white cake with whipped cream icing and more strawberries. So really nothing like Pops’ cake!!

After dinner, it was gift time!

IMG_1741IMG_1748

Even Sissy got something!

Knowing how busy our Saturday would be, I convinced Will we should open his gifts from us, Avery and the girls on Friday night.  He received 2 monster trucks from the girls, an addition to his Imaginext castle and a DVD from Avery and then a few smaller things from us.

Stella is never far away.

IMG_1770

We also gave him a new bike. Matt covered his eyes and took him outside!

IMG_1772IMG_1774IMG_1775IMG_1776

I think he liked it!

Unfortunately we had such a busy weekend that he didn’t really get a chance to ride it. He chose a birthday dinner at Moe’s so away we went!

We celebrated with Gray and Greta, affectionately known as Big G and little g, or G&g, at our house, at the football game. They got there first and had the tailgate all setup with balloons and celebratory garland/tinsel.  Will was very excited to see all of it!

IMG_1454[1]

G&g gave Will his very own baseball bat. Will was over the moon!!!  And thankfully no one was hurt nor was anything broken in the parking lot that night!!!

IMG_1458[1]

IMG_1464[1]

We also had a (sorta) football shaped cookie cake!

IMG_1467[1]

The last surprise of the night for him was his name on the jumbotron! How cool is that!

More party time to come!!

Happy 7th Birthday!

Dear Will-

As you turn SEVEN years old……

-You weigh 57.5 pounds and are 51.5 inches tall.

-You are a shining star this year at school in First Grade. Fingers crossed the rest of the year continues to go well.

-You are still very into sports, with a recent interest in baseball. You are playing fall baseball this year on the Pirates.  We procured your first “cup” this week! Ha!

-You are an avid reader and have moved into chapter books in the last 6 months or so.  We definitely need to get you some new books in the house. Your favorite book is a book on World War II you picked up at the book fair at school.

-You are also still an avid Lego engineer and get in trouble on a daily basis at bath and bed time because of the distracting Legos in your room.

-You are a little fish in the water. Swimming, diving, cannon balling, hand stands…..they are all in your repertoire.

-In the past year, you have become quite the little Nascar fan, courtesy of Pops. You are his special little man, Will. Don’t ever forget that.

-You still amaze me with your big brain and random nuggets of knowledge. Daddy and I keep talking about getting you a Guinness Book of World Records, but we aren’t sure we are ready for the constant citations from the book. Or worse yet, reenactments!

-We went back to Disney this year and you got to experience a few “new to you” rides, including Tower of Terror, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Rock ‘n Roller Coaster.  You are definitely a thrill seeker. But it warmed my heart to see a genuine smile on your face with something as simple as Mickey too.

-You still love your Sissy very much, but it has been “interesting” to watch y’all’s relationship change over the past year as you have each grown up.  I know you two will grow apart for a period but I also know at the end of the day, there will always be goodnight kisses.

-You still have many nicknames, courtesy of Avery: Bubba, Baba, Bubby, Bobby (which is really confusing to some when you are on the ball field) and most recently, Mr. Cuddles.  The few times she does actually say your name, it is a country-fied “Wheeeeeeeel”.

-You are definitely a technology wiz….you love to be on the computer or iPad. Thankfully you still love to stretch your legs outside too.  Your bike is a favorite right now. In fact, you got a new, bigger bike for your birthday!

You are my baby boy. Always will be.  We definitely have our moments lately but you are making me grow so much as a parent and a person.  Plus, you make me smarter because we are always having to research something your questioning mind has brought up. I love watching you play ball and love playing ball with you.  Sports played such a big, and fun, part of my life and I love that you enjoy them as well.  But even when your interests change, I will be right there beside you, still cheering you on.

Happy Birthday, Bubba.
