Sleepover!!

A few weeks ago we kept one of my bestie’s girls for the weekend. The 4 kids are virtually the exact same ages….her older daughter is 2 weeks younger than Will and her younger daughter is 2 days younger than Avery. You’ve seen them on here before at birthday parties and Halloween!

Anyway, it was our first time having a sleepover and it was a lot of fun. And a lot of hair to do!!

Saturday morning cartoon time!

We had a busy Saturday planned…Will had a baseball game and then we went to the NCSU football game. I forgot to take pictures at the baseball game, but the girls were very good and played with play-doh most of the time.

Tailgating time!

A little coloring during the game!

Friday night we got everyone IN bed on time but there was lots of chatter and talking for at least an hour. Saturday night, after a busy day and getting home late from the football game….well, there was not one single peep made after everyone was tucked in!

The girls loved doing each other’s hair and getting each other ready. So fun! Hey, it was one less head of hair I had to brush!!!!

We had so much fun and we hope our friends come back and visit us soon!

True Love

Will and Avery have always loved each other fiercely and for the most part, get along well. Sure there is typical sibling quarreling, but as I’ve mentioned before, the day starts and ends for them with hugs and kisses good mornign and good night.

Some folks have asked me what Matt and I “did” to make them get along some handsomely….as far as Matt and I are concerned, we haven’t done anything special other than promote family ties and love.

Avery has always adored her Will and finds a lot of comfort in his presence. I picked them up from the after school program recently and Avery overheard me tell the administration that they wouldn’t be there the following afternoon. She misunderstood and thought I said she didn’t have to go to SCHOOL tomorrow and was terribly upset as I explained it to her.

She was especially tired that day and fighting off a little cold. She wanted no comforting from me but when Will walked through the door, she ran over to him, threw her arms around his waist and buried her head in his chest and sobbed and sobbed.

He got a little bit of a bewildered look on his face, but held her for a minute and then got a book out of his book bag and started reading her a funny story. She was as good as new by the time we pulled in the driveway!

Love my babies so much!

Birthday Lunch

Remember the Father’s Day lunch here? Well, the Modlin men continue their record of picking STELLAR Sunday lunch dining establishments for celebratory events.

Will’s choice for his 8th birthday…. Damn you tv commercials of the glorious “chocolate wonderfall”!!!

I was not glad we were there!

Birthday celebrations for Will

Will is a lucky kid….we celebrated his birthday for what seemed like weeks on end!

A week or so before his birthday, Mimi showered Will with gifts. His favorite things….brightly colored athletic clothing, Legos and a book!

Then on Labor Day, Will and 4 of his friends plus Avery, all piled in the van and we headed to Frankie’s Fun Park. Wow, that was a LOUD car ride!

The boys (and girl) had a blast climbing through the fun house, playing arcade games, laser tag, bumper boats, obstacle courses and go carts!

Avery was the only one riding the bumper boats for a while. Really takes the fun out of bumper boats, but she didn’t know the difference!

After we finished at the fun park, we headed back to our house for pizza, cake and ice cream.  Will is obsessed with a game on the iPad called “Monster Legends” and was insistent I make that the theme of his cake. Wanted me to mold all of these characters out of icing, etc…. Ummmm, no.

But, I found a place online that could make me a cake topper and boy was he surprised when I saw it at his party. I had been setting him up with the whole “Mommy couldn’t make the characters” so he really was surprised when I saw I had still delivered the Monster Legends theme!

Will turns 8!

Dear Will-

On your 8th birthday….

IMG_3881

-You weigh about 63 lbs and you are 4’ 5” tall.

-You are now a 2nd grader! I don’t know how that happened. I mean, I’m not that old!

-You still LOVE LOVE LOVE to read and constantly get in trouble at school and at home for reading when you are not supposed to. Like while your teacher is teaching. Or 2 hours after your bed time. Or while walking across a parking lot.

-Because you always have a book in your hand, I am on a first name basis with the school librarian because it seems there is always a missing library book with your name on it!

-You are still very into Legos and have basically taken over the entire bonus room floor. I actually just cleaned them up a minute ago. I’m sure that will make you mad!

-Your current sport of interest is baseball and you are playing for the Giants this fall. You are a great little infielder.

-You and Avery are still best of buds. You have definitely grown more into “friends” and “playmates” as she has gotten older and bigger. You still fight and the world is very unfair in her eyes when it comes to things you get to do that she doesn’t, but you two still snuggle up together in my bed every morning. And we won’t tell anyone, but you sprinted across the school black top after school the other day to grab her in your arms and twirl her around.

-You are still my little thrill seeeker….daring jumps off the side of the pool, boogie boarding with the big boys at the beach, 18 thrill rides at Kings Dominion a few weeks ago….not sure I am cut out for this!!

-Since I started working from home a few days a week, you and I get some good QT time together as we walk to and from school. It’s fun to just have a chance to chat with you (b/c most of the time Avery begs to go to the Y!).

-At this moment, I would say your favorite things are Monster Legends and Dragon City on the iPad, Skylanders on the WiiU, books, Legos, playing outside with your friends and snuggling up with Sissy for a TV show.

Will, I love that you made me a mom. I love that you are mine. I love that I can still kiss you good night and even sometimes get a hand hold in without you cringing. I can’t wait to see the fun you have on vacation next month and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2nd grade brings for you.

Love you, Bubba!

All About Avery

Avery’s very first kindergarten homework assignment was to decorate a bag and fill it with 3 things that best described her.

IMG_3908

And yes, I should have taken a picture of the bag before it sat in her book bag for a few days!

IMG_3909

A purple marker, because purple is her favorite color and she loves to draw.

A princess, well, because what little girl doesn’t love princesses!

Barbie sunglasses keychain, because Barbies are cool and sunglasses make you look cool, all of which Avery enjoys!

She is loving kindergarten so far. So thankful!
