Baseball with the Mudcats

Earlier this month the kids got to participate in a free baseball clinic sponsored by Chevy. The best part, they got to play/practice on a Minor League baseball field with the players leading the stations.  It was a lot of fun. It was also really hot that day and I am super surprised how well they kids tolerated the heat. Especially Avery because we all know she isn’t very tolerant in general, of anything, and her baseball stamina certainly hasn’t been built up quite as much as Will’s.  When it was all said and done, I think she actually enjoyed it more than Will.

Because of their age differences, they were also split up into different groups. So I especially did not think Avery would do well without her Bubba but she did!

A few pics of them….I didn’t take the “real” camera so I didn’t have anyway to zoom in across the field so the pictures are poor and few!

How cute are they with their eye black!

Will’s good friend, Brock, from his team this spring (both regular season and all-star) joined in on the fun as well.

And the rest of the random, bad pics. It seems like there are more of Avery…probably because I was more concerned about where my solo younger kid was than my older, with a buddy kid!

We’ve kinda gotten into this baseball thing around the Modlin house if you couldn’t tell!

Softball Sissy

Not to be left out, someone else is getting some playing time on the diamond this spring. Avery started playing t-ball in May. Between t-ball, dance and Will’s baseball, we stay pretty busy!

Avery is on the Pirates, which is fun because she loves the Pirates. Ironically, Will was also on the Pirates when he played t-ball with the Y. Same jerseys and everything!

Obviously Avery has spent a lot of time at the baseball field the past few years. On the first day of practice her coach asked if anyone has been to a baseball game before. She raised her hand and in her little sassy, loud voice she exclaimed, “Only like 4 times a week!” So true, so true….

Her little friend Cecilia from dance class (2 years in a row) is on her team!

She is having so much fun!

And oh yes, she has a purple bat, pink batting gloves and a pink batting helmet, complete with a hole in the back to accommodate her pony tail!

She hit a home run in the first game (or maybe the 2nd….all the baseball games are running together in my mind by May, much less the end of June!) and Will drew this picture of her!

Making a great stop at 2nd!

Avery is signed up for the inaugural softball season through Will’s baseball league in the fall. If you need me after the first week of August through November, I’ll be at a Factory baseball field!

Go Sis!

Field Day 2015

A few weeks ago it was Field Day at school. I didn’t volunteer this time but instead just enjoyed being a spectator parent, cheering on Will and Avery and their classmates. It was a lot of fun and it was cool morning, which was unexpected for June. No worries, we’ve made up for it the past week with 100 degree days almost every day!

Fun times!

Mr. Baseball

Our baseball season is officially over as of about a week ago. In so many ways it seems like it was a short, quick season. But when I was looking back over the pictures of the season and realized they started in March (with tryouts in February), well, I guess it wasn’t that short after all.

Will was on the Red Sox this season and we were lucky enough to have the same coaches as he had from the fall season, which was awesome because we loved them!

It was a trying season…..there were some good players on his team but it there weren’t many games where everyone could pull it all together unfortunately. Overall though, I thought this was the best season as far as the character of the boys on his team (and the friendships he formed) and I had a fabulous group of moms this season too.  Will improved SO much from the fall and even made the All-Star team at the end of the season.  His on-base % was amazing this season and he had many, many games with doubles, triples and home runs.

I did a horrible job taking pictures this season. I was talking to above mentioned great mom friends too much. Or helping poor little Sis with her homework!

Here are a few pics that Avery and I took throughout the season….

I love how he is moving towards the ball in this pic.

He was 4-4 in the All Star Championship game with 2 singles, a double and a homer.

They had a heart-breaking loss in the championship game….they were up by 3 in the bottom of the last inning with 2 outs….and lost……

This is what Avery had to say about it!

A week or so later we had the end of season party for the Red Sox. Moms vs kids in kickball (such fun!) and then pizza and awards.  I love these pics because Avery is sitting right in the middle of Will’s team, just like she was one of them. And then she moved down to be closer to Will of course!

Papa Frog

Last month Will had a speaking part in the 2nd grade play “Once Upon a Lilly Pad.”  He was Papa Frog. We had been practicing his lines at home and of course he did great. He especially got a lot of good laughs from the crowd when he had to “sing” in his ribbit voice!

Here are a few pics of the performance.

Mimi’s Birthday Celebrations!

Mimi turned the big 7-0 this year and we just had to celebrate in a big kind of way!

IMG_5601

Although the little impromptu birthday dinner and store bought cupcakes the day of her actual birthday really wasn’t fancy! I’m also pretty sure someone under 5 feet tall was in charge of the camera!

IMG_5542 IMG_5543

A few days later we had a nice birthday dinner for Mimi at J. Betski’s, which is a favorite restaurant of this family!

IMG_5579

Greta did an awesome job with the decorations!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Mimi! We love you!
