Even though we have already seen Santa (twice), the kids still needed to make their lists. Since everyone's writing skills are still on the shy side of passing end of grade test scores (I've been researching kindergartens WAY TOO MUCH lately), in our house we cut out pics and glue them to our lists.
Will's list was pretty long. Like we may have needed approximately 30 sheets of construction paper to hold it all. I have been working pretty hard and consistently with him on thinking more along the lines of "it is better to give than to receive". So we settled on one list. One list with things I didn't know Santa was bringing.....hummm....
Avery became pretty disinterested when she realized this wasn't a free for all craft project. 99% of the time they are, but this one had a purpose!!!!!
This same afternoon we made a yummy rice krispie snack. Just because!
A few days later we made a quick trip to the mall to drop off the lists in the mail slot in Santa's village.
So while I worry about how long Will's list is or that they don't get even close to the true meaning of Christmas, I think about the utter excitement in Will when he was picking out, wrapping and addressing Avery's gift. The utter excitement and LOVE. If all we can do this Christmas season is love one another, then I think we have learned a pretty valuable lesson from it all.
Beautiful post!!
