I guess you could say the Christmas spirit set upon our family early this year. By accident. An innocent trip to the mall on a warm Sunday afternoon in mid-November ended with an adorable picture of the children on Santa’s lap. As you can see from the picture, their outfits were not Santa picture worthy but what can I do? It is the first picture I have of the 2 of them together with Santa where someone isn’t screaming!
While no one was screaming or crying, there was definitely some apprehension on Avery’s part. But she grabbed her Bubba’s hand and bravely sat in Santa’s lap. This Santa was extremely nice and well-spoken. Obviously because it was mid-November there was no line so Santa spent around 10 minutes with them.
The day after Thanksgiving, Santa arrived on the waterfront in Beaufort by boat.  We missed his actual arrival this year since it was during naptime, but we visited later in the afternoon. Again, Avery was apprehensive, but I sat her in his lap and she did fine. Although she ate her hands the whole time and refused to look at him, she managed to squeak out “baby doll” when he asked her what she wanted.  Will made it clear to Mrs. Claus from the get go that he didn’t like candy canes. At least he was polite about it!!! Come to think of it, candy canes seem to be a strange thing to give to small children because I don’t really know of many who like the peppermint flavor.
