Family Fun for a Five Year Old

On the night of Will's 5th birthday, we had the family over for pizza and cake. We figured everyone would rather spend some quality time with Will when the ratios were low instead of just stand on the side line and watch a crazy kids's party.  I think everyone enjoyed and appreciated this approach.

Will is crazy about superheroes right now so of course we had a Batman party. A little Gotham City skyline at night action going on with the cake.

The birthday boy was beyond excited about everything. He got so overwhelmed with emotion during the singing that he just buried his head in my chest. Love!

He took a deep breath, made a wish and blew out his candle, with a little help from Avery of course! She is never far away from him.

We actually let Will cut his cake (with close supervision of course). He may not have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but how many 5 year olds do you know who got to cut their cake with a sterling silver cake knife?!?  He actually did a great job cutting it...better than me! Although at Uncle Gray's urging, he cut some mighty big pieces!

After everyone was all sugared up, it was time for gifts. I didn't get many good pics of him opening gifts because he was crazy and excited and jumping all over the place.  But he really did well, getting some Transformers, NC State things, clothes, boots, a raincoat, monster trucks, games, a tractor, books and too many other things to count!

He claims his favorite gift was the monster truck car crusher from Avery. It must be true because she is the only one who got repeated hugs and kisses in thanks from him that night!

Still on a sugar high, doing some "permitted only because it is your birthday" jumps on the sofa!

Happy 5th Birthday, Will! We love you!
