Awards Day

Well, being that the new school year has started, I best get started on finishing up last school year’s posts!

Near the end of school Matt and I were invited to the school’s award ceremony to see Will receive an award. We had never been invited before so we were excited.  We weren’t sure what award he had received….we knew he had perfect attendance and we knew there was an award for that so that’s actually what we went in expecting.

Well, Mr. Will won the “SOAR” award, which is the award for the student who has shown the most improvement during the school year and exhibits the school’s “SOAR” behavior.  I won’t go into the whole story but it’s safe to say that Matt and I are super proud of Will for what he has achieved this year and I can barely think about this award without tearing up.

A few pics from the ceremony, including one of Will and his best bud.

Avery also earned an award from her teacher: the “Kit Kat Award”  because evidently Avery is the “little” teacher of the class and is always helping out her teachers and reminding her classmates about the rules of the classroom, etc….Her teacher’s name was Ms. Wickes and Avery was called Junior Wickes. Ha!

So proud of my kiddos and all the wonderful things they are accomplishing in school!

Dancing Queen

Avery had her dance recital a few weeks ago. As always, Avery loves the opportunity to get dressed up and all that jazz so she loves dance recital time.

Her class did a ballet and tap routine. The ballet routine was set to “If You Believe” from Tinkerbll and the tap routine was set to a jazzy version of “It’s a Small World”.

Getting ready…..I’m so glad I took the time to curl her fine hair because the humidity straightened like a board in about 2 seconds flat.

Posting with NaNa.

And with Mimi. Thanks for all the rides to dance, Mimi!

Evidently I got no pictures of the tap performance, but I did get a few during ballet.

Of course Matt and I got her flowers for the performance. When I asked Will the day before the recital if he wanted to give her flowers too he said no…he wanted to get Sunshine a ballet outfit and surprise Avery with Sunshine dressed in her dance costume at the recital. So guess what I did on Friday? Drove around to find a dance costume for a doll.

We were on the 2nd row and we held Sunny up when Avery was on stage. The look on her face when she saw Sunny was so cute!

Will begrudgingly posing with the doll and flowers and then giving them to Avery after the recital. As you can tell Avery isn’t even paying him attention. She’s looking at her daddy…..the rest of us were completely ignored!

As you can tell, someone got hold of the lipstick backstage!

As you can tell, some little people were getting tired of pictures! But a few more!

This is Avery and her friend, Cecilia. This is their 2nd year of dancing together. They also played t-ball together this year.

Cecilia’s younger sister danced this year as well.

Such sweet girls!

Avery claimed she didn’t want to take dance next year. And then as she was getting all prettied up for the recital, she decided she does want to take it.  I don’t know if we will be able to swing it with softball but we might have to try.

Baseball with the Mudcats

Earlier this month the kids got to participate in a free baseball clinic sponsored by Chevy. The best part, they got to play/practice on a Minor League baseball field with the players leading the stations.  It was a lot of fun. It was also really hot that day and I am super surprised how well they kids tolerated the heat. Especially Avery because we all know she isn’t very tolerant in general, of anything, and her baseball stamina certainly hasn’t been built up quite as much as Will’s.  When it was all said and done, I think she actually enjoyed it more than Will.

Because of their age differences, they were also split up into different groups. So I especially did not think Avery would do well without her Bubba but she did!

A few pics of them….I didn’t take the “real” camera so I didn’t have anyway to zoom in across the field so the pictures are poor and few!

How cute are they with their eye black!

Will’s good friend, Brock, from his team this spring (both regular season and all-star) joined in on the fun as well.

And the rest of the random, bad pics. It seems like there are more of Avery…probably because I was more concerned about where my solo younger kid was than my older, with a buddy kid!

We’ve kinda gotten into this baseball thing around the Modlin house if you couldn’t tell!

Softball Sissy

Not to be left out, someone else is getting some playing time on the diamond this spring. Avery started playing t-ball in May. Between t-ball, dance and Will’s baseball, we stay pretty busy!

Avery is on the Pirates, which is fun because she loves the Pirates. Ironically, Will was also on the Pirates when he played t-ball with the Y. Same jerseys and everything!

Obviously Avery has spent a lot of time at the baseball field the past few years. On the first day of practice her coach asked if anyone has been to a baseball game before. She raised her hand and in her little sassy, loud voice she exclaimed, “Only like 4 times a week!” So true, so true….

Her little friend Cecilia from dance class (2 years in a row) is on her team!

She is having so much fun!

And oh yes, she has a purple bat, pink batting gloves and a pink batting helmet, complete with a hole in the back to accommodate her pony tail!

IMG_3519 IMG_3520

She hit a home run in the first game (or maybe the 2nd….all the baseball games are running together in my mind by May, much less the end of June!) and Will drew this picture of her!

Making a great stop at 2nd!

The power fielders at 3rd and SS…Cecilia and Avery!

Checking out her medal….

Avery is signed up for the inaugural softball season through Will’s baseball league in the fall. If you need me after the first week of August through November, I’ll be at a Factory baseball field!

Go Sis!

Field Day 2015

A few weeks ago it was Field Day at school. I didn’t volunteer this time but instead just enjoyed being a spectator parent, cheering on Will and Avery and their classmates. It was a lot of fun and it was cool morning, which was unexpected for June. No worries, we’ve made up for it the past week with 100 degree days almost every day!

Fun times!
