SCORE!!!

I am a proud mommy today!!!  Today was Will's first "real" soccer game.  The Lions were out roaring in full force today! My little blonde haired, blue eyed boy scored his team's VERY FIRST GOAL of the season.  Oh me, oh my. I cried. I really did. I called my mom immediately and I was all choked up.  He actually almost scored the first goal of the game but got tripped up just a few feet shy of the goal and the ball managed to roll out of bounds right beside the goal.
Taking the field for the first time

I was so proud of Will and ALL of his teammates. They all played so hard and even though they lost 3-2, everyone was happy and excited for after game snacks! Ha!

Look at that footwork!

At first Will did very well with the fact they lost. But as the day has passed, he has gotten increasingly upset about it. Now I'm worried how he will handle the first game where he doesn't score a goal, so now I am trying to down play the whole event. Of course Avery isn't helping matters......the first thing she says to everyone is "Bubba scored a goal".

And he's off....

Getting knocked down right before he had the chance to score :-(

But I can already see the competitiveness in me coming out.....I was already moaning and groaning about this and that and yelling a lot. I've got to reel myself back in.....we've got a lot of years ahead of us!!

I hate you can't actually see him, but this is him scoring

Soccer!

After a nearly 3 month hiatus, soccer is back!  So long free Saturday mornings, but hello to a happy little blonde headed boy. This “season” we are actually playing is what I call “real” soccer…outdoors, cleats, shin guards, even games. The whole nine yards. Previously Will had played at an indoor facility where they really just worked on skills. While Will enjoyed it, I wouldn’t say he loved it. That is so not the case now. I have never seen him eat his breakfast as fast and then race upstairs to get dressed. There was no lolly-gagging whatsoever on Saturday morning!
Putting his hand print on the team banner
His team is the Lions and even better, one of his best buds, Annie, is a teammate. There were even snacks afterwards, which was a surprise to him and a big hit!! Doesn’t take much to please a 4 year old I suppose!!
Picking out his jersey with Coach Chris. Poor Avery REALLY wanted to do a hand print.

Score!!

practice, practice, practice!

Sissy (and Theodore) cheers Bubba on from the sidelines!

A Whole Lot of Nothing

Barely 2 months in and I have already hit a blogging slump.  Flip the coin and perhaps that translates into not a lot going on, which for a busy, working mom of two....maybe not a bad thing!!  We've stayed in town the past few weekends, which has been a nice change of pace. No birthday parties or anything like that to rush to. Just enjoying time as a family.

Matthew volunteered at the Dixie Deer Classic this past weekend so I had the children by myself for most of the weekend. A grand time was had by all.  The children and I dined out, ran errands, and spent plenty of time outside. We did art projects while listening to the Avett Brothers and had big bath time fun in Mommy's big tub.

Unfortunately Avery has been a little under the weather since Saturday. I saved myself $85 and went ahead and self diagnosed her with a virus. The good news is other than a high fever in the late afternoon/early evenings, she has been absolutely normal. She is showing no outward effects of being sick. In fact, if anything she has been a little sillier and crazier than usual. Her personality is really blooming. I'll have to do a post on her fashion opinions soon. So she's missed school this week but fingers crossed is going back tomorrow. She has cried to go every day and is very sad after we drop her Bubba off. Evidently Mommy isn't quite as good of a play mate.

I'll leave you with a random potpourri of pics from the last week or so....
She picked out her hair accessories...told ya I need to do a post on her fashion sense.
Grave Digger paying a visit. Notice how the Mom is at the kitchen sink.
I ordered a bunch of stuff from a website that is shipping in multiple packages. This is the box that was used to ship one spool of thread.
Will LOVES playing basketball. More than playing monster trucks.

Arts and crafts over the weekend
Went a little wild and crazy with the foam letters
So the odd thing I just noticed about these pictures.....the dogs are only in one of them. Very rare for them to not be in the background!

Blink

I’ve been feeling a bit sentimental about Will lately.  Maybe because I blinked and he was almost 4 1/2. Or maybe because it has hit me that Avery isn’t a baby anymore, which by default makes Will like a middle-schooler, at least. Whatever the reason, he is changing before my eyes on a daily basis. He is no longer that chubby, round faced little guy. He is a tall and lean pre-schooler. Better yet, he is a tall, lean pre-schooler who shows genuine love and concern for others. Most of the time. :-)

He is no longer a toddler who needs my help (whether he wanted it or not) for most things. Instead he now sets the dinner table, gets drinks for him and Avery in the afternoon, helps feed the dogs…..I could go on and on.

One of the biggest changes I’ve seen with Will lately is his interaction with Avery. Don’t get me wrong; he has LOVED and ADORED her since he first saw her in the hospital. He has always called her “his baby”. But lately he has really become a little mommy/daddy to her. He reads books to her and gets things for her that she can’t reach.  He asks to hold her all the time….or maybe I should say he offers to hold her all the time, which is a huge help for me when I am trying to get dinner on the table for two over-tired and hungry kids, with 30lbs (I am sure you know what 30lbs I am referring to) on my left hip. He will rock her when she is upset, while he rubs her back and sings songs to her.  I guess he has become my “Avery Whisperer”!
Yes, they still quarrel. Especially over monster trucks and cars. Avery also is in the habit of taking his stuff and making a game out of running away with it. But his maturity in dealing with these situations has improved basically overnight. Just another way I know he is growing up. Way. Too. Fast.
He misses becoming a kindergartner in the fall by 7 days. I think those might end up being the best 7 days ever because they mean I can make him stay little for one more year.
Now if I could only get him to change diapers………….
