In true 2014 fashion, the weather was YUCK for the Easter weekend. This year has certainly had what seems to be more bad weather days than usual!
Following tradition, we went to Beaufort for Easter.
It didn’t take long once we got there for Avery to start rearranging mom’s things and looking for treasures. She found this cardboard cottage that my dad had bought for the kids a few years ago. It was buried in the back of a closet.
She quickly named it with 2 of the few words she knows how to spell. We had a good time laughing at it all weekend.
The house even has a mail slot and we kept slipping notes into her all weekend. Bless her heart she really thought someone (else) was sending her mail. She played with/in this house all weekend. And of course the rest of us had to play too.
Saturday morning we headed to the church egg hunt. Because of the weather, it was moved inside the Parish Hall.
There were a couple of organized games for the kids. Both Avery and Will “won” their hopping races and received biking bunnies for prizes!
After a burger lunch at Royal James and walk through the museum, it was home to decorate Easter cookies and dye the eggs.
We had Easter dinner that night with Matt and Cecily. As you can tell, Avery doesn’t love Cecily. At all. Not one bit.
Guess what, the Easter Bunny came to see us!
Once again it was bad weather so the traditional Easter morning egg hunt was moved inside.
Our church in Beaufort has the youngsters flower a cross and it is placed at the grave site of the last church member to pass away and be buried in the church cemetery. It just so happened to be at my dad’s, even though it has been several months since he passed away. This was a complete surprise to me when it was mentioned during the service. His grave site is just across the street from my grandmother’s old house, which is where my mom grew up.
When we got back to Raleigh that afternoon, the Easter fun wasn’t over. Avery and her best bud, Sydney, decorated some more cookies!
I only swept up pink sprinkles for like 3 straight days.
Ahhhh what a beautiful Easter you had in Beaufort......and to have your precious Dad mentioned at the service...he was with you in spirit.
